It is thought that teens may struggle to disengage and go to bed for fear of missing out. While it can be worrying for parents that your young adult is losing sleep because of social media, in this time of growing independence, it can be more important for them to keep in touch with friends through social media platforms. However, screen time should be used in moderation and there are things that can be implemented to limit screen time.

Setting boundaries can help get your child into the habit of having breaks from their phone. This can be done by monitoring your own screen time and setting examples, as well as making deals that there are no phones at the dinner table or before homework. There are also certain types of tech that can help with this problem. For example, some home routers and security packages have features that allow you to switch of WiFi at certain times and therefore set schedules for screen time.
